Sarcopenia is what we want to avoid

Age-related loss of muscle mass, also known as sarcopenia, is a real drawback. It’s hardly noticeable in our 30s but over time it has a huge impact. For women, the hormonal changes from menopause contribute to the decline. After 60, your body might already feel weak and powerless. However, sarcopenia is about more than muscles. It has far-reaching consequences for your overall health.

Muscle strength equals health

Muscle strength has a surprisingly high impact on the overall quality of life. Recent scientific studies show that a strong body is crucial for our health. Among other things, a weak body is prone to heart disease, osteoporosis, frail joints, and depression. Muscle strength can also prevent falls and help you stay active and independent. Keeping your body strong is critical for your well-being during the second half of life.

You can reverse it!

Fortunately, sarcopenia can be countered. To reverse it your muscles need to work, they need resistance. This sends a signal to your body: Build more muscles! With resistance training you can keep up your strength. You can even build more muscle mass. The good news is that you can start training at any age. However, the later you start the more effort it takes. So it’s crucial to not wait until you feel weak but get going as soon as possible!

Somatics can bring the joy of movement back into your life.

What is a somatic workout?

Feeling the body and its sensations is key to somatics. This brings the joy of movement back into your life. Somatics is also a great insurance against injuries. When you feel your body, you can adjust the challenge and choose what’s good for your body in this specific movement. Furthermore, somatics is not about competing or imitating. It‘s about peacefully building strength in your own way. You don’t have to work against your body, you can work together with it – and fully enjoy it!
